New-born certified dead three times before found alive in coffin by parents

Bolivia – 18th February, 2019: The grief a parent feels over the loss of a child is indescribable.

A Bolivian couple experienced this unbearably raw heartache after their baby boy supposedly died during labour on February 8 after just 27 weeks of pregnancy.

The utterly devastated parents, from Santa Cruz, were placing their newborn baby boy, Dhilan Daren, in his coffin when the unthinkable happened.

The shell-shocked mother and father noticed that their tony precious son was breathing.

Bolivian authorities are investigating the incident as a case of medical negligence, but the hospital director, Federico Urquizo, put it down to nothing short of “a miracle” because the baby was declared dead three times in separate checks by hospital staff.

“The baby was born with no vital signs, so it was a foetal death. The doctors checked again and the situation was the same,” Mr Urquizo said.

“An hour later, they check once more and the diagnosis was the same. Two hours later, the baby was checked again and was still confirmed as dead.

“The only thing we can say to everyone is that it was a miracle.”

A hospital committee concluded that the baby was in fact born dead - but somehow came back to life two hours later.

Little Dhilan is currently being cared for in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

The baby’s father Richard Jurado showed the signed death certificate to reporters and has now requested a birth certificate.

He met with the prosecutor in charge of the case, Lorgio Viveros, who will interview the medical team over the next few days.
