Jerusalem, Israel – 9th August, 2018: There was another assault reported against medical personnel in Israel, this time in Hadassah Mt. Scopus Hospital in Jerusalem.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night, when a 20-year-old patient attacked a doctor who was treating him in the emergency room. The patient’s dad joined in, and the two were attacking the doctor, choking him around his neck. B’chasdei Hashem the event did not end with serious injuries, and police arrived and the two were taken into custody.
Police report the suspects are residents of the eastern capital, ages 20 and 48.
Director of Hadassah Mt. Scopus, Dr. Tamar Elram told the media, “A complaint was filed this morning with police and we rely [on police] the thorough and professional handling of the attackers.
“It should be emphasized that Hadassah Hospital condemns any aggressive and violent action against any of the teams and will always stand by them. However, our public and day-to-day staff will continue to provide excellent medical care to the hospital’s patients and will carry out their mission with dedication as always.”
Just this week, there was a strike launched by the nation’s nurses in protest over attacks against doctors and nurses. The strike was ended when agreement was reached to bring additional security personnel into hospitals and clinics to avoid future attacks.
