Doctors refuse to give woman a C-section - Her husband beats them up

Beijing, China – 17th October, 2018: A man has been arrested in Beijing after beating up three doctors for refusing to give his pregnant wife a caesarean section.

The 44-year-old woman’s due date had already passed and her husband, surnamed Zheng, was concerned about the possible health complications, though doctors at Peking University First Hospital had assured him that there was nothing to worry about.

When the family requested a C-section, the doctors said no, explaining that it was not necessary, causing Zheng to flip out. Surveillance video shows him pushing, punching, and attacking one surgeon in a hospital hallway before also going on to attack two more doctors with help from his college-aged daughter who also joined the fray. The surgeon suffered a fractured jawbone and eye sockets in the fight.

The following day doctors yielded to the family’s demands with Zheng’s wife giving birth to a baby girl through C-section. The incident occurred last month and neither Zheng nor his daughter was immediately detained with police reasoning that they should be there to take care of the new-born.

On Friday, Beijing police announced that Zheng had now been detained while his 19-year-old daughter, a first-year university student, had been released on bail after showing remorse and being publicly forgiven by one of the doctors.

For years, violence against doctors has been an extremely serious problem in China with patients and family members taking out their anger and frustrations by attacking, shaming, and even killing medical workers.

Back in 2015, Beijing hospitals started to be equipped with riot gear as a result of increased patient-on-doctor attacks.
