Missouri, US – 14th March, 2018: The McDonald County prosecutor's office has dismissed a felony child abuse charge that an Anderson mother was facing in alleged negligence in getting her son medical treatment.

The prosecution of Janet E. Rainwater, 23, in McDonald County Circuit Court had been deferred for six months. The case was dismissed Wednesday upon the defendant's completion of the deferral period without having committed another offense.

The charge was filed against Rainwater in January 2016 after an investigation by the Missouri Department of Social Services and the McDonald County Sheriff's Department.

A probable-cause affidavit states that her son, Jedediah Hall, was treated at a hospital by a doctor who told her the boy's injury required scheduling of a follow-up appointment with an orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible. The affidavit alleged that the boy lost use of one of his fingers after she failed to schedule the appointment.
