  • 7 years after stroke, paralyzed woman awarded $35m

    Massachusetts, US – 8th May, 2015: A jury in Dedham awarded $35.4 million Thursday to a Walpole woman who is paralyzed from a stroke that she suffered hours after she gave birth, her attorney said.

    The verdict for Andrea Larkin, 35, was handed down in Norfolk Superior Court, said her lawyer, Benjamin Novotny of the Boston firm Lubin & Meyer. The defendants were Dedham Medical Associates, where Larkin sought treatment for dizziness in 2004; and Dr. Jehane Johnston, a physician who examined Larkin, Novotny said.

    India – 5th February: With 10 percent of 3.63 trillion medicines popped worldwide in 2015, India is the world’s third-largest medicine market. It stands to scientific reason that these Dr.ugs will have side effects.

    Yet, in 2013, India reported no more than two percent of globally occurring adverse Dr.ug reactions (ADR.s). It isn’t as if Dr.ugs have fewer side effects in India. Serious effects were seen in 6.7 percent of patients, a 2014 study reported. Other studies have cited Dr.ug side effects as the reason for 3.4 percent of hospital admissions in India, 3.7 percent hospital readmissions and 1.8 percent mortality.

    A Minot woman was awarded $7.65 million in damages after a jury ruled Tuesday that a Lewiston hospital technician failed to identify her cervical cancer.

    Ruth Hricko, 63, sued Central Maine Medical Center for medical malpractice in September 2013. The hospital employs the technician.
