A medical malpractice lawsuit has been filed, alleging severe negligence by a renowned medical center and associated physicians. On July 10, 2024, plaintiffs Bernardo Gomez Montenegro and Sandra Duran lodged their complaint in the District Court of Harris County against CHI St. Luke’s Health Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center, Kelsey-Seybold Medical Group, PLLC, Dr. Jonathan Nelson, and Dr. James Baird.

The case revolves around Mr. Gomez's treatment at the defendants' facilities starting March 20, 2023. Admitted for an elective gastrectomy to treat gastric cancer by Dr. Jonathan Nelson at St. Luke’s Baylor Medical Center, Mr. Gomez initially appeared to recover well post-surgery. However, complications soon arose when he began experiencing severe abdominal pain on March 24, which persisted and worsened over the following days. Despite his deteriorating condition marked by acute pain and alarming vital signs such as tachycardia and hypotension, the medical team allegedly failed to take timely action.
