Four newborns have died at a private hospital in Rangpur in the last 24 hours. Their families alleged that the newborns died due to medical negligence of the authority.
The incident took place at Rangpur Newborn Child and Maternity Services Clinic adjacent to Bangladesh Bank intersection around 11:30pm on Friday. The family and relatives of the newborn protested at the hospital at night. The newborns who died ranged in age from 4 to 12 days.
It has been alleged that four newborns died in two days due to medical negligence of Rangpur Newborn Child and Maternity Services Hospital. They cheated the helpless families and put pressure on them to pay the bills by handing over thousands of taka receipts. The victim's family members got involved in an argument with the authorities.
According to family sources, no pediatrician came to see the newborns since they were admitted to the hospital. The hospital authorities could not provide the desired medical care. On the contrary, even after the death of newborns, the bill increases by keeping them in the NICU.
Ashikur Rahman Ashik, guardian of the newborn, said that his house is in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram. His wife was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Later, his wife gave birth to a child through Caesar. Immediately after the birth of the child, the doctors asked to take him to the NICU. But as there was no seat in the NICU, a broker lured her child to the Newborn Child and Maternity Services Hospital. Later, the child was admitted to this hospital to recover. Four days after admission, no specialist doctor was found. I couldn't find a good nurse either. The doctor said they would come, but none of them came. Thus four days passed. His son later died there. He demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the incident.
The parents of the other three newborns who died also complained. They say they are killing our children this way. They also demanded justice for these killings. The parents claimed that none of those who were supposed to provide medical care to these newborns were in the hospital. No one could be reached for comment as there was no doctor at the hospital.
