A gynaecologist in Italy took his own life days after the grieving parents of a baby girl who died at his hospital lodged a complaint alleging malpractice.
The girl's parents filed a complaint against as many as ten staff at the hospital in Brescia, believing their daughter had died because of human error, per local media.
The parents, who have not been identified, reportedly raised concerns about the improper use of a suction cup, as used in assisted births.
An autopsy of the baby girl was carried out on Sunday, February 9, but a cause of death has not yet been reported.
She reportedly suffered from severe oxygen deprivation before she could be rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators are now trying to work out whether there was medical negligence or incompetence on the part of the staff involved in the delivery.
Just three days later, on February 3, a 39-year-old doctor ended his own life in Cles, in the nearby province of Trento.
The man, who has not been named, did not leave a note, and investigators are looking to see if there is a link between the deaths.
