A heartbroken father has recounted how his newborn son tragically passed away after alleged medical negligence at a hospital run by Evangelist Ebuka Obi’s Zion Prayer Movement Outreach in Akoka area of Lagos State.
The man, who resides in Ajah, told SaharaReporters on Thursday that his wife went into labour and expressed her desire to deliver at Sarafik, a church-affiliated hospital on the mainland.
According to the man, he obliged and drove her to the facility, where he was required to pay multiple fees, including N45,000 for an emergency card, N25,000 for scans, and additional charges totaling up to N200,000.
He stated that while at the hospital, he observed another pregnant woman in distress. The woman reportedly travelled from Imo State for prayers at the church but developed complications. Despite paying N45,000 for a hospital card, she was allegedly denied treatment due to financial constraints.
He explained that his own wife successfully gave birth to a baby boy, but doctors insisted on cutting the child's tongue, claiming it would prevent future speech difficulties. According to him, the baby started bleeding excessively afterward.
