Court documents allege the problems were caused by a gel used to clean teeth that was rubbed into the patient’s eyes. The patient would immediately experience discomfort in the eyes and later lose vision.

KUWAIT CITY: Two doctors have been sentenced to one year in jail for a patient’s sight loss due to doctors’ negligence. The incident took place in Kuwait. Judge Basheer Abdul Jalil observed that the patient’s sight loss was due to an error on the part of the doctors, even if it was not deliberate.

Court documents allege the problems were caused by a gel used to clean teeth that was rubbed into the patient’s eyes. The patient would immediately experience discomfort in the eyes and subsequently lose vision. The documents show that because the gels for the teeth and eyes were manufactured by the same company, their tubes looked identical, hence the mistake.

The court observed that the negligence of the doctors caused physical and mental suffering to the sick youth. Due to the loss of his eyesight, he has also failed multiple marriage proposals. The complainant’s lawyer Mullah Yusuf said that he will now approach the civil court to demand huge compensation.
