A report shared on the internet has shocked Cubans both on the island and abroad: Darielah Delgado, a young woman of just 20 years, claims to have been the victim of serious medical negligence at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial Hospital in Bayamo, which left her without a uterus after a poorly performed dilation and curettage procedure.
The testimony, published by exiled doctor Alexander Jesús Figueredo Izaguirre on his Facebook wall, recounts a series of events that, according to the young woman, began on February 10, when she was admitted to terminate a pregnancy due to congenital malformations of the fetus.
Three days later, on February 13, she was taken to the operating room at 8:00 AM to induce labor. At 12:30 PM, she delivered the fetus, but what followed was a medical nightmare.
According to Darielah, the on-duty doctor had to go find the physician responsible for removing the fetus, who was distracted using her mobile phone. When she finally arrived, the professional left the remains visible to the patient, causing her an anxiety attack.
"Thanks to a doctor named Isandro who helped me that day," the young woman mentioned, making a positive exception in an otherwise traumatic experience.
