PIL seeks Covid care under CCTV glare

Bharatiya Bikash Parishad State president Surendra Panigrahi on Tuesday filed a PIL in the Orissa High Court citing the uproar in social media on negligence in treatment of many Covid patients and praying for CCTV coverage of the treatment in Covid hospitals.

The Parishad in a letter dated 23.4.21 has asked the Centre and State Governments to instal CCTVs in every Covid19 hospital as well as display of TV outside the hospitals, so that the patient's family can receive daily update. This should be done on a war footing basis, demanded Panigrahi. He said the State Government is levying fines on various counts like not wearing masks, maintaining social distance etc.

But what about for crimes like medical negligence, lack of oxygen, etc in hospital, which are committed against the innocent Covid patients who are dying for the lapses. He further demanded that the Epidemic Act be amended to provide financial incentives to the kin of deceased.

The State Government has ordered the reservation of 50% of hospital beds for corona heart disease patients but it is limited to pen and paper only. So Government should be held accountable for Covid mismanagement of private hospitals, he demanded further.
