Lisa Niland’s parents complain to Medical Council over Sligo Hospital case

The family of a 19-year-old woman who died from a brain haemorrhage three days after she attended Sligo University Hospital have filed a complaint with the Medical Council in relation to the emergency consultant who was originally on call for her case.

Last month the HSE and the hospital apologised to the family of Lisa Niland after they took a medical negligence case to the High Court. The family received a substantial settlement and an apology over the standard of care.

On January 17, 2017, Niland was in a McDonald’s restaurant when she began to suffer a severe headache and dizziness, and vomited. She arrived at the hospital by ambulance at about 9.30pm and was seen by a doctor at 11.15pm.
