BHOPAL: Relatives of a deceased Covid-19 patient accused JP hospital of medical negligence including disruption in oxygen supply, here on Thursday. The district hospital administration has denied the allegations.
Two patients died in the wee hours of Thursday morning. Body of one of the deceased was being carried away by her relatives who were stopped by hospital authorities. They were informed as per Covid-19 protocol, body of deceased is not released to the family. It led to a heated exchange and hospital authorities called the police.
Following this, the relatives accused JP hospital doctors of medical negligence. They alleged that oxygen supply was disrupted in the Covid-19 ward between 4am to 5:30am on Thursday. During which time the patients admitted in the ward started having trouble in breathing and voices were heard. It was alleged that some patients even left the ward and came out and some remained outside, alleged relatives of deceased woman who was a resident of Bhanpur.
Avideo which has gone viral on social media complicated the situation further. In the video, unidentified staffers are heard saying, ‘there is no oxygen’.
JP hospital civil surgeon, Dr Rakesh Srivastava, has denied the allegations. “Other deceased is a very close relative of a JP hospital employee and has not accused anyone of negligence. The person is well-versed with hospital functioning. There was no disruption in oxygen supply. The relatives of other deceased patient were told to adhere to Covid-19 protocols on handing over dead body, after which baseless allegations were levied.”
