Woman's kin alleges medical negligence, stages protest after she dies during childbirth

Chandigarh: A woman's family in Haryana's Karnal staged a protest outside the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC) after she died during childbirth. The woman's family members have alleged that she died due to medical negligence. 

The 24-year-old has been identified as Reena. A resident of Phoosgarh village in Karnal, the woman was admitted to the hospital as she was pregnant. The woman's family members refused to hand over her body for the autopsy and placed it on the road. 

Family members to be present during autopsy 

A police team, headed by Karnal deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Mukesh Kumar went to the spot during the protest. After a two-hour-long conversation, the cops agreed for the post-mortem by a board of doctors. As per the agreement, two members of the woman's family will be present during the autopsy and it will be video graphed, Hindustan Times reported. 

Hospital staff denies allegations 

While the woman's kin alleged medical negligence, the hospital staff denied all claims. The staff said that they have the woman's treatment chart to prove that there was no negligence on their part.

Ravinder Kumar, the woman's brother-in-law said that she was admitted to the hospital three days ago for delivering her baby but she died on Saturday evening. 

DSP Kumar said that further action in the case will be taken after the post-mortem report arrives.
