Dhanbad, Sept 13: Sadar police have lodged an FIR against four doctors of a coal city-based nursing home for alleged medical negligence which caused the death of an infant.

On the complaint of the father of the deceased infant Sumit Parasher, resident of Sindri Township,  an FIR has been lodged against Dr Sangeeta Karn, Dr Pallavi Singh, Dr Barun Kumar and Dr Shreya Karn.
The Officer-in-charge of Dhanbad Sadar police station, Vinay Kumar Singh, said that the civil surgeon has been requested for setting up a medical board over the death of an infant in a nursing home. Under the supervision of a magistrate, a post-mortem of the deceased infant was conducted at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH).
As per the complaint of Sumit Parasher, he had admitted his wife Shalini Parasher to the nursing home on September 9 for delivery. On September 11 the baby died due to medical negligence of doctors, he alleged.
In one month this is the second time an FIR has been lodged against a doctor in Dhanbad. Last month the state government had directed the civil surgeon to lodge an FIR against private practitioner Dr D Chakravarti and cancel his license following the death of a Bokaro patient in his nursing home.
Rattled by FIR against four doctors, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dhanbad chapter has called an emergent meeting in the evening today to discuss the course of action.
IMA district chapter president Dr Major Chandan said that no doctor wants his case to deteriorate and does his best to save critical patients. Despite it, doctors are being assaulted and an FIR is lodged compelling IMA to take drastic steps.
“It is a matter of concern for medical practitioners that rather than taking action on unruly attendants and family members of patients, police mount pressure on doctors to tender apology despite no-fault,”  said Dr Chandan.
IMA president Major Chandan said in April he was assaulted when he went to save doctors after the death of a patient in a Housing Colony nursing home. Last month senior doctor of Katras Dr Umashankar Singh and his son were attacked. An FIR was lodged in both cases but police have not yet taken any action.
