In yet another instance of baseless litigation, the patient’s complaint was dismissed by the Consumer Commission.

This is an interesting case which perhaps represents reasons for frivolous litigations based on patients’ whims and fancies.

A government hospital was caught red handed in this case on its false claim of providing free service, and hence, not coming under the ambit of Consumer Commission.

The patient, a 69-year old man, was diagnosed with single vessel disease in the month of February. He was taken to the hospital with complains of heaviness in chest in the month of May. The cardiologist performed angioplasty to insert a stent in left anterior descending artery.

Law mandates that services of specialists must be availed and necessary precautions must be taken in case of known complications.

Diabetes is called a silent killer for good reasons. It wreaks havoc in patient’s life, and sometimes doctors also get caught in its mesh, as happened in this case.

The patient underwent hysterectomy and was discharged the same day. A day later, she was taken to the hospital due to swelling and numbness in her left leg. She was referred to another hospital where she was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and septicaemia.

The patient was under antenatal care of Dr. Shah, a gynaecologist, for the delivery of her second child. The doctor performed an emergency C-section, and a premature baby was delivered. Three days after discharge, the patient was taken to the doctor with complains of abdominal pain and fever with rigors.
