The patient was in an advance stage of cancer and also suffered from liver ailments. He was taking treatment from the hospital, including chemotherapy, for a long time. He was admitted as his liver issues took a serious turn. 

A general surgeon was recently held negligent for several lapses in performing a procedure to treat a seventy-year-old patient’s hernia. The State Consumer Commission took cognizance of following observations made by the Delhi Medical Council before holding the doctor guilty.

A pregnant lady, due to deliver was taken to the hospital. She delivered a boy after few of admission. Unfortunately, the newborn suffered from Meconium Aspiration Syndrome (MAS).

Both, the newborn and mother, were referred to another hospital for better management. The child could not be saved – he died shortly after being admitted to the second hospital.

A sixty-year-old lady suffered severe injuries in a road accident. Her right hip joint bone was fractured at three places. The orthopaedic surgeon performed open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with proximal femoral nail (PFN) procedure.

The patient, a young boy, was born with congenital conditions – cerebral palsy and hemiplegia. These conditions made his bones brittle and suffered problems of leg movement. He underwent surgery to fix implants on both legs.

After about three years, he was taken to an orthopaedic surgeon. The doctor studied boy’s case and performed surgery to remove the implant.

This is one of the strange cases reported recently on medical negligence. The patient consulted a doctor for treatment of high fever. The doctor administered an injection, after which patient’s condition worsened. He approached the doctor again, who prescribed some medicines to manage the complications; but to no avail.

Medical emergencies can come knocking on any day – whether it is a weekend or a public holiday. Law mandates that hospitals must be equipped with medical and para-medical staff, along with availability of diagnostics on any given day. A hospital was recently held negligent in this case for not following suit.
