Any mishap or an undesired outcome of treatment / intervention must be honestly and diligently noted in medical records, and the same must be informed to patients / relatives. Covering up such incidents would only harm healthcare providers as happened in this instance.

In a strange turn of events, husband out-of-terms with his patient-wife created quite a ruckus in the lives of doctors and hospitals recently. This bizarre incident is probably not the first one faced by healthcare providers.

The patient, a young woman in mid-twenties, delivered a boy under the care of gynaecologist but suffered postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) thereafter. She was referred to another hospital for better management where she was diagnosed with acute renal failure and liver dysfunction.

The patient, a pregnant lady in her late thirties, was under the antenatal care of an obstetrician. Her pregnancy was progressing without any problems up until the full term. The blood pressure shot up for which the doctor prescribed some medicines. But to no avail.

The honorable Supreme Court recently overturned National Consumer Commission’s judgement that had held a surgeon negligent.

The patient was under regular antenatal care of gynaecologist at a hospital. Her first pregnancy was terminated. This was her second pregnancy.

The gynaecologist performed C-section and a healthy baby boy was delivered. The child was hale and hearty, but the mother not so much.
