A premature baby, born at just 27 weeks and weighing 900 grams, was admitted to a neonatal care unit immediately after birth. The newborn remained under hospital care for nearly two months — on ventilator and oxygen support.
The baby survived. But his vision did not.
At the time of discharge, the parents were advised an eye check-up. They consulted an ophthalmologist the next day, who diagnosed the child with an advanced stage of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) — a preventable condition that affects preterm babies and can lead to blindness.
