he Hospital Board of India (HBI), under IMA, Pune chapter, on Tuesday condemned the vandalism at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital last week and said Dr Sushrut Ghaisas, the treating doctor of the deceased woman, never refused medical care to her.
HBI had convened a meeting on Tuesday on the raging issue of the death of Tanisha alias Ishwari Bhise after she was allegedly denied treatment in a city hospital. "In the light of the recent events, our heartfelt condolences go to the Bhise family. Dr Ghaisas was acting in the capacity of a medical consultant. His primary responsibility was the medical care of the patient, which was never refused by him. Logistics, billing, insurance and charity come under the purview of the hospital administration," HBI stated in a press release.
"Destruction of property of Ashwini Hospital (of Dr Ghaisas' father) and Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, catering to thousands of patients on a daily basis, disrupts humanitarian services. We strongly condemn this act. These acts of vandalism have created an atmosphere of extreme fear and apprehension among the medical fraternity," HBI said in the release.
