Woman colonel moves Punjab and Haryana HC alleging ill-treatment at military hospitals

A woman colonel of the Army has filed a writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court alleging ill-treatment at the hands of Army medical authorities and has sought directions to allow her to seek medical treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, or any other medical institution.

The high court on October 14 adjourned the matter till October 24 to allow the counsel for the Union of India to seek instructions in the matter.

The petitioner is an officer of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) branch of the Army and is presently attached to the headquarters of the 40 Artillery Division in Ambala for disciplinary proceedings. She has named the GOC-in-C Western Command as a respondent, in addition to her commanding officer in 40 Artillery Division, Commandant Military Hospital, Ambala, and Head of Department of Psychiatry, Command Hospital Western Command, Chandimandir.
