IMA, State Doctors’ Association condemns assault on doctor

NAHARLAGUN, May 4: Indian Medical Association-Arunachal Pradesh (IMA-AP) and Arunachal Pradesh Doctors’ Association (APDA) today in a joint press statement vehemently condemned the incident of physical assault on one of its members at Hormin Hospital, Naharlagun.
Expressing solidarity with the family members of the deceased patient, IMA-AP President Dr Lobsang Tsetim while extending condolences for the unfortunate death condemned the physical assault on Dr T Muri, the attending doctor and the damage inflicted on the hospital’s properties. “Whatever happened at the hospital cannot be welcomed; we urge the authority to conduct a proper investigation so that truth prevails. Moreover, the law enforcing agency must book the culprits who physically assaulted the doctor under Arunachal Pradesh Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act,” Dr  Tsetim said. 
Doctors are working 24x7 under immense pressure especially during the prevailing 2nd wave of the COVID pandemic in all hospital like TRIHMS, RKMH, DCHC-Midpu, DCH-Chimpu and others, risking their lives, he said, lamenting along with that despite such dedication, rude behaviour from a section of citizens is sad. “We don’t urge sympathy, but at least people should understand the situation of the doctors also,” Dr Lobsang added.
Extending his heartfelt condolence, General Secretary, APDA Dr. Tara Taku rued that it has now become a trend in the country to assault doctors for faults they are actually not responsible for. Indeed, the doctors have now become the punching bags for the public, he said. He also appealed to the citizens to understand the work pressure the doctors are currently going through.
Meanwhile, Dr Muri who was assaulted by the patient party for alleged medical negligence that led to the death of the woman clarified that he provided all the required medical services to the deceased and has nothing to do with the unfortunate death.

Inmy heartfelt condolence to the deceased’s family members at this hour of grief. Moreover, it is always painful for a doctor to see a patient dying,” Dr Muri added.
