In a heartbreaking case of medical negligence, a woman from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, has uncovered a shocking error: a surgical needle was left inside her abdomen following her first childbirth in 2023. According to the reports presented by various online media sources, the needle went undetected for two years, only being discovered during her second delivery, leading to serious complications for both the mother and her newborn.

According to a latest report presented by ‘News 18’, Hina Khan, a resident of the Ghoghar area in Rewa, delivered her first child at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in March 2023. After the birth, both mother and child were sent home in good health, but Hina soon began experiencing persistent pain in her abdomen. Despite visiting several doctors, her complaints were dismissed, and the pain was attributed to the normal healing process after childbirth.

As per media reports, Hina lived with this discomfort for nearly two years. Her concerns were ignored, and the possibility of something more serious, like a retained surgical instrument, was never considered. It wasn’t until her second pregnancy that the source of the pain was finally discovered.

As reports suggest, during her second delivery, Hina went to a different hospital, where doctors discovered the shocking truth: a surgical needle had been left inside her abdomen after the first delivery. The foreign object, which had caused ongoing pain for two years, was now found to be the reason for her discomfort.
Unfortunately, the consequences of this error didn’t stop with Hina. The presence of the surgical needle also caused injuries to her newborn during the second delivery. The baby suffered multiple wounds, and as a result, was placed on a ventilator in critical condition. The infant’s survival is uncertain, and the family is desperately hoping for recovery, as presented by media reports.
While Hina’s health is now stable after the birth, her newborn’s condition remains a serious concern. The family is devastated by the harm caused by a simple mistake that could have been prevented.
For Hina, the discovery of the surgical needle was a painful revelation. According to the sources, for two years, she had suffered with abdominal pain, believing it was just part of the recovery process. Doctors repeatedly told her that her discomfort was normal and that it would go away in time. Had her symptoms been investigated more thoroughly, the needle could have been found earlier, potentially preventing both her ongoing pain and the harm caused to her newborn.

As per media sources, the Khan family is now demanding justice and accountability from the hospital where the error occurred. They are calling for strict action against the medical professionals who failed to ensure that the surgical needle was removed after Hina’s first delivery. The family believes that the lack of follow-up care and attention contributed to this medical mistake and caused unnecessary suffering.
They are also speaking out about the larger issue of patient care, emphasizing the need for hospitals to provide more thorough monitoring after surgeries and deliveries to prevent such errors from happening in the future.

This case has sparked outrage and concern, drawing attention to the issue of medical negligence in India. The fact that a surgical needle was left inside a patient’s body for such a long time is a serious failure in the healthcare system. It highlights the importance of proper care and follow-up after surgeries, especially for new mothers, to ensure that all surgical tools are accounted for and that patients are not sent home with foreign objects inside their bodies.
