A six-member commission formed by the government on Tuesday began a probe into the death of Vevina Dasari, a college student, allegedly due to medical negligence at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam on December 25, 2024.
The doctors of the hospital in question, along with the staff connected with the case, attended the inquiry at the King George Hospital (KGH) Superintendent’s office. D. Ramesh Kumar, farther of the deceased, also attended the inquiry.
The committee members are Dr. D. Radha Krishnan, HoD General Medicine, Andhra Medical College (AMC); Dr. K. Murali Krishna, HoD Cardiology, Dr. VSN Murthy, HoD, Emergency Medicine, Dr. D. Ratna Prabha, Assistant Professor, Department of Nephrology, Dr. P. Janaki Babu, Professor, Department of Anaesthesia and Dr. T. Satish Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Nephrology, AMC.
Mr. Ramesh Kumar told the media that his daughter complained of pain on December 10 last year. “We admitted her to the Hospital. We were told that her creatinine level and blood urea level were low. She was put on dialysis that night. Subsequent tests on December 13 had revealed that she was affected by sepsis,” he said.
He alleged that the doctors hadn’t informed us about it. “On seeing the lab reports after my daughter’s death, we came to know that she suffered sepsis. On December 23, the doctors told us that Vevina was fine and discharged her from the hospital. She felt extreme suffocation and breathlessness the very next day and we took her to the hospital again. She passed away the next day,” he said.
