A maternal death at a private nursing home in Kendrapada has triggered allegations of medical negligence by the family of the deceased woman on Monday.

The incident occurred at a facility in Bhalagandi under Kendrapada Town Police limits, shortly after the woman gave birth to a stillborn child.

Family Alleges Negligence, Demands Closure

The deceased’s husband, Sheikh Kuna from Paradip Garh, had brought his pregnant wife to the nursing home for delivery. According to the family members, she died shortly after delivering a stillborn baby.

Nausad Ali, a relative of the deceased, alleged, “The doctors told us that surgery was needed to deliver the child, but later we received her body. This is why we believe her death was due to medical negligence. We want action against the doctor and the nursing home to be shut down for an unspecified period.”

Following the incident, the family created a ruckus in front of the nursing home demanding strict action against the medical staff.

Doctor Denies Negligence, Cites Complications

Dr Rashmi Patra, refuted the allegations. He said, “The patient arrived at the second stage of labour with full dilation. However, the baby was a stillborn and got stuck due to a condition called 'shoulder dystocia'. We informed the family, and they agreed to surgery.”
