A pregnant woman, identified as Kalpana Lamani from Savadatti, died during treatment at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) District Hospital late Tuesday, leading to protests by her family and relatives.
Kalpana, who was admitted for delivery, successfully gave birth in the afternoon but reportedly developed complications later. Doctors attributed her death to low blood pressure, stating that further investigations would determine the exact cause. However, her family rejected this explanation, alleging negligence by the medical staff and demanding strict action against those responsible.
The aggrieved relatives staged a protest within the hospital premises, refusing to allow the body to be moved to the mortuary until Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan arrived to address their concerns.
In response to the unrest, police were deployed at the hospital to prevent any untoward incidents. Authorities assured the family that a detailed investigation would be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
