Kota: Fresh details emerging from the ongoing probes into the death of a 42-year-old, eight-month pregnant woman have revealed that the night duty gynaecologist at Bundi district hospital was absent from the hospital and reached only early next morning, hours after the patient's condition deteriorated. The doctor, Dr Mobin Akthar, has since been placed under APO, while departmental and administrative inquiries are underway. The woman died Dec 7 while being referred to Kota from Bundi district hospital, triggering allegations of gross medical negligence. A senior medical officer of the hospital, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Dr Akthar, who was on night duty in the mother and child care unit on Saturday, Dec 6, was not present in the hospital overnight. She reportedly arrived around 5 am on Dec 7 and examined the patient. However, in her statement to the probe committees, Dr Akthar claimed she reached the hospital on call and attended to the patient before referring her to a higher centre. The officer also pointed out discrepancies in treatment, stating that the patient was administered glucose despite requiring an urgent blood transfusion. "This was surprising and medically questionable," the officer said. Principal Medical Officer of Bundi district hospital, Dr L N Meena, said absence of a night duty doctor amounts to serious negligence. "If it is established that the doctor was not on duty and arrived only in the morning, strict action will be taken," he said, adding that reports from the departmental committee and the ADM-led inquiry are awaited. On Saturday, the deceased woman's husband, Madan Singh of Chotra Ka Kheda, recounted that his wife, Indira Kanwar, was admitted around 7.30 pm on Dec 7. He alleged that despite heavy bleeding from midnight onwards, his repeated pleas were ignored till morning, when she was finally referred to Kota around 6 am. "We had arranged blood for my wife, Indira Kanwa. The medical staff refused to accept the blood, saying it would be required in the morning and put her on glucose till morning," Madan Singh told TOI.He further claimed she was shifted in an ambulance without oxygen or medical staff. Former Rajasthan Seeds Corporation director Charmesh Sharma alleged that doctors routinely stay at home during night duty and questioned the delay in completing the probes.
