Doctor leaves surgical scissors inside Madhya Pradesh women for 2 years
BHOPAL: What began as a seemingly ordinary stomach ache turned into a nightmare of medical negligence for a 44-year-old woman in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh.
For months, the pain in her abdomen grew unbearable, and despite numerous doctor visits and tests, the source of her suffering remained a mystery.
But when the discomfort reached a breaking point, a CT scan at Bhind District Hospital uncovered the truth: a pair of surgical scissors was left inside her stomach after a routine operation two years ago at a govt hospital in Gwalior.
Now, her family is demanding justice and plans to take legal action against the doctors responsible for this grave mistake.
Kamala Bai, a resident of Saundha Gohad in Madhya Pradesh, was suffering from persistent stomach pain since undergoing an operation at Kamala Raja Hospital in Gwalior in February 2022.
It was only after two years of continuous suffering and multiple misdiagnoses that the issue was finally discovered through a CT scan conducted at Bhind District Hospital on Friday, her family informed.
They said Kamala was experiencing excruciating abdominal pain for the last two years, which worsened over time. Despite undergoing several medical tests, treatments, and consultations with various doctors, the root cause of her discomfort remained undiagnosed.
Doctors initially failed to diagnose any significant problem. Kamala and her family sought medical help at Bhind District Hospital, where a CT scan was performed.
The results were startling: a metal object was found lodged in the left paracolic gutter, a part of the digestive tract. Upon further investigation, the object was identified as a pair of surgical scissors.
Kamala Bai explained that she underwent the surgery on February 20, 2022, to remove a cancerous lump in her stomach at Kamala Raja Hospital.
However, it appears that the surgical team at the hospital left behind a pair of scissors inside her abdomen, an inadvertent mistake that went undetected for two years.
For two years, Kamala Bai endured constant pain, bloating, and digestive problems. Her family is now calling for strict legal action against the doctors and hospital staff responsible for negligence.
