Kanpur: In a shocking incident at a private hospital near Ramadevi Chauraha in Kanpur, a newborn baby girl died, prompting an uproar from her family, who alleged gross medical negligence. Police intervened and de-escalated the situation after assuring appropriate action would be taken.

The baby was born on March 28 to a resident of Macupurwa in the Cantonment area who works at the Golf Club. On Monday afternoon, the baby developed a high fever, prompting the family to admit her to the private hospital, where they claim Rs 20,000 was taken for admission.

According to the family, the hospital staff failed to provide proper care. The baby’s aunt, who was present during the treatment, claimed that although a doctor came, guidance was given via video call rather than in person. She further alleged that hospital sweepers and reception staff were involved in administering treatment to the newborn. Around 7 pm, the doctor informed the family through a video call that the baby’s condition was critical and advised shifting her to another hospital.

The family also accused the hospital of misleading them about the child’s condition. Even after informing them of the baby’s death, the hospital reportedly asked the family to purchase injections and medicines worth Rs 2,000. Following the incident, police arrived and pacified the situation, after which the family took the baby’s body home.

Speaking to TOI, SHO Ajay Prakash Mishra said the case was being investigated on the basis of the written complaint of the family members, and legal action would be taken thereafter.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in a shocking incident, a four-month-old baby girl passed away at the Omandurar Government Multi-Super Speciality Hospital in Triplicane, Chennai. The child's parents alleged that she had been administered the wrong injection.
