The boy, identified as Rocky, son of Debakanta Barik from Padmapur Melakasahi, was admitted after a bamboo splinter pierced his ankle while playing. Doctors dressed the wound and administered an injection as per medical notes. Shortly after, Rocky collapsed and died.
The sudden death of a minor admitted for a minor injury shocked his family and triggered anger among locals. Residents alleged medical negligence and claimed a wrong injection caused the tragedy. Enraged crowds vandalised hospital property and blocked the Basudevpur–Jamujhadi road near the medical facility.
Protesters demanded compensation for the bereaved family and strict action against the doctor or nurse responsible. The situation grew tense as hundreds gathered outside the hospital.
Basudevpur police rushed to the spot to control the situation. Officers engaged with the agitated crowd, urging them to lift the blockade and assuring that the matter would be investigated.
