Ananthu, a native of Punnapra, has accused the Government Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha, of stitching a wound on his leg without removing a piece of glass lodged inside. Ananthu, an employee of a light and sound agency, met with an accident on July 17 at Valanjavazhi when his bike was hit by a car. He sought treatment at the medical college hospital following the accident.

Two days later, the doctors removed the bandage and said the wound was healing well. However, according to the complaint, he continued to experience constant pain and was unable to go to work. After noticing swelling near the wound, he returned to the hospital for treatment on December 22.

Ananthu alleged that the doctors were dismissive and asked him to seek treatment elsewhere. He then approached a cooperative hospital, where doctors reportedly removed glass pieces from inside his leg.

According to Alappuzha Medical College Superintendent Dr Harikumar A, the hospital received a complaint on December 31. “We received the complaint yesterday. An inquiry was scheduled for today, but the patient did not turn up, so it has been postponed to Friday. Only after the enquiry can we reach a conclusion,” he said. Dr Harikumar added that since July, the patient had consulted multiple departments, including orthopaedics and surgery, and all related medical records will be examined as part of the probe.
