Koderma: A six-year-old boy from Domchanch in Koderma district lost his right hand due to medical negligence, his parents claimed on Saturday. The district administration has initiated a probe based on the father's complaint.
Ajit Kumar said his son Aman fractured his wrist while playing at home and was taken to a private medical facility, Om Kaushalya Hospital and Trauma Centre in Koderma, for medical assistance on March 16. There, one Dr Vishal Kumar attended to Aman and plastered his hand. Aman was discharged on the same day.
"However, Aman began experiencing severe pain and was taken back to the hospital on March 22. He was admitted and referred to Varanasi for further treatment the next day. Due to financial constraints, we took him to a hospital in Dhanbad instead. There, doctors diagnosed the child with gangrene and recommended immediate amputation to save his life," Ajit claimed.
The family were forced to get Aman's hand amputated as there was no other option, Ajit claimed. Soon after, Ajit filed petitions to deputy commissioner (DC) and the superintendent of olice (SP), demanding action against the doctor.
SP Anudeep Singh confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against the doctor at the Koderma police station and an investigation is underway. DC Megha Bhardwaj stated that a committee comprising the civil surgeon, an orthopaedic surgeon, and a magistrate has been formed to probe the matter. "Action will be taken based on the findings of the committee," she added.
Kumar denied any negligence in his treatment and termed the incident unfortunate. hat the patient's family did not follow post-treatment instructions properly and failed to return for the scheduled follow-up examination.
