A shocking case of medical negligence has surfaced once again in Jodhpur, where a 13-year-old basketball player was mistakenly transfused with the wrong blood type at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. The doctors administered B-positive blood instead of A-positive, but the alert child noticed the error in time and prevented a major mishap.
According to hospital sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Cottage Ward-6. The hospital administration has now formed a four-member inquiry committee, which will submit its report within 24 hours.
Child spots the mistake, alerts doctors immediately
The young basketball player from Jodhpur had undergone knee ligament treatment in Jaipur about a month ago. After an infection developed post-surgery, his family brought him to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Jodhpur, where he was admitted on October 28. A follow-up surgery was performed on October 31, and he was kept under observation in Cottage Ward-4.
On Tuesday morning, a female patient in Cottage Ward-6 was scheduled to receive B-positive blood, but due to a mix-up, the same blood packet was mistakenly connected to the child’s IV line.
However, before the transfusion could proceed, the alert child noticed the “B+” marking on the packet and immediately informed the staff that his blood group was A-positive. The doctors then swiftly removed the drip and began treatment to ensure no adverse effects.
