Koraput: A woman from Koraput district had to undergo untold misery and run around four hospitals across three districts in the State for treatment due to the alleged medical negligence by a doctor at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jeypore.

The woman identified as Sabitri Majhi of Parata village under Nandapur block in the district had undergone family planning surgery at Koraput DHH on March 16. However, the doctor who performed the operation on her allegedly left a broken needle inside her uterus while stitching the surgical curb

When Sabitri complained of pain in her abdomen after the surgery, an X-ray was conducted which revealed the presence of the broken needle which was lodged in her uterus. Later, doctors at the DHH referred Sabitri to SLN Medical College And Hospital at the district headquarters for removal of the surgical needle

When she was shifted there, doctors referred her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur from where she was again shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack which is around 450 km away from Koraput
