The children of the couple who died after a liver transplant at Sahyadri Hospitals in Aug demanded reinvestigation in the case on Thursday, saying they were burdened by debt from the surgery.Bapu Komkar (49) and his wife Kamini (42), a Hadapsar-based couple underwent a live-donor liver transplant at Sahyadri Hospital's Deccan branch in Aug. Kamini donated a portion of her liver to Bapu, who suffered from end-stage liver cirrhosis. Bapu died two days later and Kamini, after an initial recovery, developed septic shock and multi-organ dysfunction, succumbing soon after.The couple's son, Ved, alleged that his mother, a healthy donor, died due to infection despite assurances from the hospital. "We are now burdened with debt from the surgery. The inquiry committee never contacted us. We demand a reinvestigation," he said, adding that there had been no update from the JJ Hospital committee assigned to probe the case.Shiv Sena medical help cell chief Mangesh Chivte joined the Komkar family in accusing Sahyadri Hospital of medical negligence and alleged collusion between govt officials and the hospital administration in such cases.
