3-year-old was to be discharged in 2 hours, but is brain dead for 6 days; doc denies charges of medical negligence during anaesthesia
When three-and-a-half-year-old Aroof Ali walked into Saboo Siddique Hospital on February 23 with a minor elbow fracture, his family expected him to be back home later the same day. After all, the doctors had estimated a 15-minute procedure followed by discharge in about two hours.
In the nightmare that unfolded, Aroof went into seizures shortly after being wheeled out of the OT and has been on life support since then. Six days later, his family is still searching for answers and accountability – even as they hope against hope for their child’s recovery.
