A second-year woman DNB resident doctor from the gynaecology department at Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini was allegedly assaulted and brutally attacked by relatives of a new-born baby who died on Monday, TOI reported.
According to the report, the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), giving details, said the doctor was returning from the outpatient department when she was intercepted by the attendants. They tore her clothes and tried to strangle her with her stethoscope inside the ward in broad day light. The doctor sustained scratches during the assault.
“The newborn had been in the NICU since June 2 and died on Monday morning. The incident reportedly occurred around 2 pm, with no security or hospital staff initially present. Fellow doctors and nursing staff later intervened,” RDA president Dr Anirban Bhaumik was quoted by TOI.
As per the report, medical director Dr Meenakshi Sidhar said she arrived at the scene within five minutes and initiated a medico-legal case (MLC).
