A 35-year-old woman died during treatment at the Amdavad Municipal Corporation-run Shardaben Hospital in Saraspur. Her family members and relatives alleged gross medical negligence and sought strict action against the doctors concerned.
The deceased, Priyaben Patni, a resident of Sanjaynagar in the Bapunagar area, had been admitted to the hospital after developing labour pains, according to family members.
Relatives alleged that her condition deteriorated during the night and that she died while undergoing treatment in the early hours of the morning.
Following her death, relatives and locals gathered at the premises, unleashing chaos as they demanded a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Family alleged that Patni had initially been receiving treatment at a private hospital but was shifted to Shardaben Hospital due to financial constraints.
Furthermore, senior medical personnel were not present at the time of delivery and claimed that instructions were being provided to nursing staff over the telephone. They alleged that negligence during treatment led to the woman's death.
Hospital authorities, however, denied the allegations and maintained that the patient suffered a sudden medical complication.
Doctors on duty said the woman’s heart rate rose sharply, following which she became unconscious and could not be revived despite medical efforts.
The family has sought police intervention and demanded a detailed investigation into the incident. They have also insisted on a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police officials said they were awaiting a formal complaint from the family and that further action would be taken based on the findings of the medical and legal inquiry.
Hospital authorities have not yet issued an official statement on whether an internal investigation will be conducted.
