Gadag: A woman died outside Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) hospital in the city, and her family alleged medical negligence by doctors.
The deceased has been identified as Ratnavva (45) of Sheeranahalli in Mundargi taluk. She was admitted to GIMS on Wednesday after complaining of stomach pain. Her son Nagaraj said doctors did not provide timely treatment and kept them waiting. Ratnavva collapsed and died on Thursday when they were taking her out to another hospital.
GIMS Director Basavaraj Bommanahalli clarified that the woman had a severe skin condition and had earlier taken steroids. She was registered in the dermatology outpatient department and treated by specialists with the necessary medicines.
He said she was advised to undergo a scan on Thursday and was told further treatment was required, but the family chose to go elsewhere. Being obese, she may have suffered a heart attack.
