GUWAHATI: The Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) authority has ordered an inquiry to probe alleged negligence of doctors at the Emergency department of the hospital which resulted in death of one Dr Rupesh Kejriwal. Dr Kejriwal, who originally hailed from Bihar, was doing super-specialty course in Neurology in the GMCH. On Thursday night (February 4) he met with an accident at Hatigaon in the city and suffered serious injuries. Even though the personnel of the traffic branch of Hatigaon Police Station initially took Dr Kejriwal to the GNRC Hospital at Dispur Last Gate, he was later referred to the GMCH. Sources alleged that when Dr Kejriwal was taken to the emergency ward of the GMCH on late Thursday night, he remained unattended by any doctor for three hours. Eventually Dr Kejiwal succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning.

The untimely death Dr. Kejriwal, who was a national badminton player, was widely discussed and debated in the social media forcing the GMCH authority to conduct an inquiry. The GMCH Superintendent Dr Abhijeet Sarma said the hospital authority has sought explanation from the doctors who were on duty on Thursday night. He said the inquiry would find out the lapses. "It is an unfortunate incident since Dr Kejriwal was studying in the GMCH. If lapses or medical negligence is found appropriate actions will be taken against the erring doctors," Dr Sarma said.
