A 4-inch broken needle was found lodged inside the stomach of a woman from Katni district, Madhya Pradesh, after she sought treatment at a private hospital. The discovery came following complaints of persistent stomach pain, prompting an X-ray examination that revealed the foreign object.
Initial treatment at government facility
Kanchan Dubey, wife of Shubham Dubey and resident of Karela village, was first admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Barhi on Saturday after fainting at home. She received treatment under Block Medical Officer Dr Rammandi Patel.
The woman was referred to Jabalpur Medical College on Sunday night.
Allegations of negligence
The patient’s family has accused Dr Patel of negligence, claiming that during treatment, needles were used repeatedly on Kanchan’s body, resulting in one breaking off and becoming lodged inside her stomach. The family reported that her condition deteriorated later that night.
Transfer to private hospital and further diagnosis
Following worsening symptoms, Kanchan was taken to Shri Hospital in Katni on Sunday. An X-ray performed there confirmed the presence of the broken needle in her stomach. Medical professionals at the hospital have recommended surgery to remove the needle.
