Another maternal death was reported in Karnataka at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences District Hospital on Tuesday, January 28. The family of the 32-year-old woman Anjali Ningani Patil from Nilji village in Belagavi taluk alleged that she died due to medical negligence. She gave birth to a baby girl via cesarean section on Monday, but died later that night.
The hospital authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of death and identify any possible lapses in care. Anjali’s body has been moved to the mortuary for a postmortem.
The incident follows a series of maternal deaths in Ballari, where the administration of a Ringer's Lactate IV fluid has been cited as the cause. A pharmaceutical company, Paschim Banga Pharmaceuticals, is under investigation for supplying these intravenous fluids linked to these deaths
