Kanpur: A 37-year-old software engineer died following a kidney stone surgery at a private nursing home in Lajpat Nagar on Saturday night, triggering allegations of medical negligence and a protest by family members. The deceased identified as Vishal Tiwari, a resident of Shastrinagar, was admitted to the hospital on June 12 around 5pm after complaining of abdominal pain. His wife, Soumya Tiwari, informed that doctors advised laparoscopic surgery for kidney stone removal, which was performed the following day on June 13. According to Soumya, after the procedure, the hospital informed the family at 8pm that the surgery had been completed. However, Vishal had reportedly developed breathing complications and was shifted to ventilator support while still in the operating theatre. The family was told the next morning that Vishal's condition had stabilised. But by 6.30 pm on June 14, the hospital staff suddenly suggested shifting him to another hospital. Moments later, the family was informed of his death. Enraged by the sudden and unexplained death, Soumya, along with Vishal's brother Acharya Raju and other relatives, confronted the hospital authorities and staged a protest outside the nursing home. She later filed a formal complaint against two doctors, accusing them of negligence and mishandling post-operative care.Nazirabad police intervened to pacify the protestors. Station in-charge Raj Kesar confirmed that an FIR has been registered under appropriate sections of BNS and an investigation is underway. The hospital has not yet issued an official statement. The police are awaiting Vishal's post-mortem report to proceed further in the case.
