A tense situation unfolded at Tata Main Hospital (TMH) on Saturday following the death of 82-year-old Harishankar Prasad Gupta. His family alleged medical negligence during his treatment in the orthopaedic ward. Gupta had been admitted on Thursday after fracturing his leg in a fall. On Friday, his health deteriorated, but according to his grandson Priyanshu Gupta, senior doctors failed to attend despite repeated pleas.
By Saturday morning, Gupta began vomiting and showed signs of severe distress, but there was still no significant medical intervention, the family claimed. He passed away shortly thereafter. The news of his death led to a heated confrontation between the grieving relatives and hospital staff, resulting in a brief period of chaos outside the ward.
Hospital security and management quickly intervened to control the situation. A senior administrative officer assured the family of a thorough investigation and appropriate action if negligence is proven. “We understand the family’s grief and will look into the case with due seriousness,” the officer said.
