Woman Molested By Hospital Staff While Her Husband Laid On Death Bed

A woman from the Indian state of Bihar, who recently lost her husband to Covid-19, allegedly claimed that she was sexually assaulted by the hospital staff while she was desperately running around to keep him alive.

The woman was reportedly fighting against the odds to keep her husband alive. She spoke to the press about the horrifying moments she had to go through while her husband laid on his death bed.

"Attendant pulled my dupatta, kept hand on my waist," the victim, who will not be named, told reporters.

The woman’s husband, a software engineer, fell prey to the dreadful second wave of the coronavirus and had been battling for his life in the hospital for around a month.

The woman said her husband fell ill on April 11 and was admitted to the Glocal Hospital in Bhagalpur, the next day after he tested Covid positive.

He was later transported to a private hospital in Patna city, where he died on May 8.

In a heart-wrenching video that has gone viral on social media, the wailing woman appeals to people not to trust hospitals.

She accused the hospital of medical negligence. The woman alleged that the attendants were missing most of the time. The ones she found refused to give medicines to her husband, she said.

The woman said that her dying husband would signal for water but the staff did not bother to respond.

"Hospital staff would watch movies on their phone as patients cried for help," she said.

She accused the hospital of deliberately switching off the oxygen supply in the Intensive Care Unit to force people into buying oxygen cylinders from private suppliers in the black market.

"Hospital would sell oxygen cylinders for Rs 50,000," she alleged.

The woman also claimed that an attendant at the Glocal hospital, who she identified as one Jyoti Kumar, molested her in front of her husband and her mother.

"My mother started shouting. I turned around. He [The attendant] was smiling with his hand on my waist. I snatched the dupatta, but couldn't say anything because I was afraid," the woman told reporters.

The woman alleged that a doctor at the Patna hospital also tried to molest her.

Speaking to the reporters, the wailing woman said the coronavirus didn’t kill her husband, but the medical negligence and the fear of running out of oxygen did.

More than dozens have died in the country over the past few weeks due to lack of oxygen and treatments.

Many of the hospitals in the country have reported a shortage of medical oxygen. The Indian government had requested international assistance to help tackle the current situation.

The country recorded more than 3,48,421 new coronavirus infections and 4,205 fresh fatalities as of Wednesday, May 12.

"It is quite shocking to learn how inhumanely people behave even at times when their existence is being questioned," a netizen commented under the viral video.
