In a case of alleged medical negligence and quackery, Ambedkar Nagar police have arrested two unqualified men for allegedly performing a caesarean section at an illegal private hospital that resulted in the death of a 28-year-old woman.

The accused, Yogesh Verma (32), an arts graduate from Malipur, and Shubham Vishwakarma (19), a Class 12 student from Sultanpur, were arrested for allegedly conducting surgeries at Navjeevan Hospital in the Baskhari area without any recognised medical degree or surgical qualification.

According to police, Priyanka, wife of Sandeep Kumar Verma, was admitted to the hospital on February 5 for childbirth. The two accused allegedly performed a C-section, following which she delivered a baby girl.

Soon after the procedure, Priyanka developed excessive bleeding and failed to regain consciousness after anaesthesia. As her condition deteriorated, she was referred to a hospital in Akbarpur and later to Lucknow, but died on the way, officials said.
