A complaint of medical negligence has been filed against a doctor after the death of a new mother at the Mother and Child Department of a district hospital in Kalaburagi in Karnataka, marking another tragic case in the rising number of maternal fatalities in the state.
The deceased, Bhagyashri Shivaji, gave birth to a baby boy at Afzalpur government hospital on Tuesday morning. Her husband, Shivaji, has accused the doctor of failing to attend the delivery, leaving a nurse to carry out the procedure instead.
The blood pressure of the 23-year-old dropped and on the instruction of nurse, she was shifted to the district hospital. “The doctors at the district hospital also did not treat her properly and she died," the complaint alleged, as reported by Deccan Herald.
District Surgeon Dr Rukhia Asana Rabba told the publication that patient had bleeding after her blood pressure dropped due to shock and there was no medical negligence.
Meanwhile, District Health Officer Dr Sharanabasappa Kyatanal stated that taluk medical officer has been instructed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
